Robin egg gestation-- when is it too long?

A robin has nested by my door a few weeks ago. There is one egg. The parent flies in and out to nest but doesn't seem to stay put very long. Everything I read says it should have hatched by now. It hasn't and I am wondering what to do? Do I leave it in there or do I take it down? Will it hatch later?
